Cause Analysis on Liquid Metal Assisted Cracking (LMAC) in a Steel Casting

  • The causes of liquid metal assisted cracking (LMAC) in a steel casting surface of U-joint and cone-shaped joint of fish tail cable net structure super stadium were analyzed. The concept of LMAC on the steel casting surface and the reasons for its formation were introduced. The measures to prevent and reduce LMAC were put forward from four aspects of steel structure design, steel casting material selection, steel member processing and steel member hot galvanizing. If the material with high carbon equivalent or the material with high internal stress in the process of design, it is recommended to adopt anti-corrosion measures such as cold spraying zinc or paint instead of hot galvanizing for anti-corrosion.
