    • Sample of cigarettes was selected from a same package and smoked by the smoking machine under the regulations mentioned in the standard YC/T 29-1996.Particulate phase in the mainstream of cigarette smoke was collected on cambridge filter,and the gaseous phase was absorbed in 0.005 mol·L-1 HCl solution.The particulate phase on the filter was extracted with 0.005 mol·L-1 HCl.Solutions containing the gaseous phase and extracts from particulate phase were combined.An aliquot of 6 mL was taken and passed through the MCI-GEL solid phase extraction (SPE) column to remove tar and nicotinamide.The initial 2 mL of the eluate were discarded,and the latter 4 mL were used for IC determination of ammonia (as NH+4-ion).Detection limit (3S/N) was found to be 0.006 mg·L-1.Tests for recovery were made by adding standard NH+4-solution to extracts of the smoke,values of recovery were found in the range of 95.6%-102.5%.Values of RSD found from data of 7 replicate determinations was 3.1%.Ten brands of native produced cigarettes were analyzed by this method,giving contents of ammonia in the range of 7.62-14.0 μg per one cigarette.
